Bedroom Update

Image
I have been working on personalizing my bedroom since February.  I enlisted the help of a decorator and she was a very good listener.  I wanted something romantic but also not traditional.  I wanted to walk into my room and fall in love with it...every time.  Kelley Brown succeeded in making that happen. After Before Pam Gamwell a fellow crossfitter hand painted the fireplace and my night stands.  She is truly talented. I really like a taste of Texas in our room.  We have an alligator skin as a runner on the credenza and Kelley made this rams head after I showed her a floral one from a local boutique.  I think its snazzy. We removed this wall candelabra and had it weather treated and placed outside by the pool   Now this gold mirror occupies the wall.  It looks amazing. The comforter was ordered from Anthropologie .  One of my favorite stores. I found this on Horchow...

2015 Project

Image
I enjoy keeping busy and learning new things.  I read a few blogs which showcase their projects and craft ideas.  One in particular looked like fun and I felt fairly confident that I could pull it off.  I found the finished result at Dixie Delights .  She has a fabulous home and does various projects throughout, room by room.  I then found the tutorial on Pinterest with step by step instructions at Pretty Handy Girl Blogspot . I was very happy with the end result: Original built in China Cabinet I chose this fabric to use as for the back. Here is my end result once I placed all my knick knacks on the shelves.  John did have to help with the glass shelves.  They were very heavy!! My father in law gave me some beautiful crystal from Germany. Instead of placing all the pieces out I only chose 4 of everything to display.  The beautiful little blue chevron bowl under the plant is a handmade gift given to my daughter by one...

Birthday Girl (warning lots of pictures)

Image
Guess who turns nineteen tomorrow?!?! My youngest, bravest, most confident child. This will be the first time ever in her 19 years of life that I am not with her on her birthday. She has been my strong willed child that has made me grow in so many ways. Raising her with the knowledge that she has no limits on what she can do and be, she unwillingly made me realize the same rule applies to me. I wish this bright star in my galaxy the most amazing birthday and wish that I could be there to give her a birthday hug and kiss, something that is not easily sent via postal service or Skype.  My thoughts and love have no bounds, no limits, and do not stop at the county line in Texas.  She will feel my love, our love, on her special day because we did not leave room for doubt in her. Wishing you the best of days. Happy Birthday my shooting star!!!!! 1998 with Daringer (Treborway Home) 1994 Houston 1998 Galveston 3 years old 2013 Junior Year ...

Un Hoarding aka Garage Sale

Image
For the past 20 years or so, I have stored bins full of my children's toys and some clothing.  I know that some of my hoarding tendencies stem from the fact that I do not have anything from my childhood.  I didn't want my kids not to have childhood memorabilia once they established their own family.  And another part of me wanted to tell my gorgeous grandchildren (and they will be gorgeous) that the toy they are playing with once belong to their mom or dad.  My husband thinks I'm crazy but he doesn't discourage me and takes the bins to our airplane hanger for storage when needed.  I'm a very lucky wife.  John's philosophy about spending and my over zealous social calendar is "Don't sweat the little stuff" and it's all little stuff. ( Great book by the way.)  It makes living with him very pleasant.  No worries about spending or hiding shopping bags or needing a separate checking account, as some wives I know do.   He always told me that...

A Burlap Summer

Image
John has been traveling a lot lately and Shelby has also been away so what am i to do????  Well, everything that I have wanted to do and more! I always wanted to have some great wreaths for the front door.  The entrance to my home has an adorable courtyard with a fountain/firepit and wreaths along with plants that won't die on me would really make this area pop. So back in November I purchased two burlap wreaths and decorated them for Thanksgiving.  This is what they originally looked like. Since our summers last a lot longer than our falls.  It bothered me that these beautiful burlap wreaths were just wasting away in my closet top shelf as my front doors sat bare. So I grabbed my Hobby Lobby Coupon and headed over to buy my deco mesh ribbons, flowers, and summer accents. This is what I came up with. Front door final result: Tada!!!! Nothing was hot glued on so that when I grow tired of this arrangement I can add or subtract so...
