LA is the place it sets my mind ablaze

Image
After five days in Santa Barbara enjoying the beautiful harbors and beaches.  We traveled the one and half hour drive to Los Angeles. City of Angeles, which I have yet to see.  A lot of entitled blondes but that's about it.  It's only day one. On the other hand the sushi we had was fantastic. We tried the sea monk liver sushi and decided it really wasnt for us.   For lunch prior to leaving Santa Barbara we went to Lilly's tacos and had tongue, Cheek, and eye tacos. Eye tacos were on the greasy side. All in all today was a day for new experiences. Lilly's is mentioned in serval national magazines as the place to eat.  It reminded me of tacos of Mexico.  Simply delicious!! And at a $1.60 ea., a bargain. Tomorrow we will check out the sights of LA and do a dearly departed  tour. Should be spooktacular!!

March madness

Since in typing this on my iPhone count on many typos and misspellings. This is day 11 of being on "vacation". The first seven days we stayed in Bonaire helping a friend move into their oceanfront home. Nice work if you can get it. After day three I was missing air conditioning and bug spray. Even paradise could use ac. I know I'm a spoiled American. On the other hand, the view of crystal blue water everyday filled with parrot fish, needle nose fish, and blue tangs really soothes the soul. There nothing like it ..... Until you visit Santa Barbara ! More on that tomorrow. My finger is getting tired!

Ides of March

My new shoes.  I have been complaining about my feet hurting for the past 3 months and finally decided to go see a podiatrist.  Come to find out, I have plantar fasciitis.  Which in layman terms means I now have to buy expensive shoes and not wear any more flats. That being said, I love my new running shoes!!  I have done over 3 miles a day the past week since I purchased the shoes.  My thighs are killing me from all the running which is a good sign.  Better than my feet hurting. On another note, this is the house we are staying at on our trip to Bonaire. I'm hoping to post more pictures on Bonaire since so many have not heard of this little island.  This island is known for the fantastic sea life and many divers visit this 24 mile plot of land for this reason. I will leave you with this joke...... I never wanted to believe that my Dad was stealing from his job as a road worker. But when I got home, all the signs were there.

End of February

February is one very busy month for us.  Aside from Girl Scouts cookie time (yes, my troop still sells GS cookies)  Houston also kicks off the rodeo with the annual BBQ Cook off.  This year the booth that my husband is part of was featured on Fox News.  Our theme this year was Bobbysox and Barbecue.  You can imagine how I had to dress, yes 50's attire.  White oxfords, pink satin jackets and a pony tail. I also wore a "Lucille Ball" type dress for the morning news. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/video?clipId=8458964&autostart=true A video of the booth and interview.  Wonderful segment on Baytown and the BBQ booth.  This segment brought on a slew of calls and texts calling me the "Vanna White" of porta potties.  I have to say I agree.  It's not easy sporting a smile while balancing in kitten heals AND opening a porta potty door. Very proud on how it all came together for this team.  Even though we didn't win for best barbecue, the tent was super

A Day in Town

On Tuesday I spent my day with a friend visiting Bayou Bend, Ima Hogg's beautiful home on Memorial Drive.  Contrary to belief, Ima Hogg never had a sister named Ura, she only had three brothers.  With normal names like William, Michael, and Thomas. I was surprised to find that the home housed different periods of antiques in the rooms instead of the belongings of The Hogg family.  I would have preferred to view the home as she lived in it and not all the period antiques.  I know that when I visited Abraham Lincoln's home in Springfield, IL. It was kept just as he lived in it.  The difference being one is a President and the other the First Woman of Texas. Before Diane and I visited Bayou Bend we had lunch at Barnaby's Cafe  . Great food and atmosphere.  Well worth the drive and located less than 2 miles from the museum.   I love living in the 'burbs, seeing kids riding their bikes to school, the home town parades in the subdivision, swim team weekends, e
