Shelby's Senior Year

Image
This year has gone by so fast that my head feels like it's still spinning.  The one quote that keeps playing in my head these past few months is "Get busy living or get busy dying".  It seems to be this year's theme.  Especially with the unexpected passing of friends in the start of this year.  Every day I give thanks for the grace of God allowing me to have another day with my family. Since the start of the school year it has been one big rehearsal for graduation.  It's the school's Centennial year so they have been having numerous celebrations that begin in April.  They even have Robin Roberts giving the commencement speech at graduation.  We were hoping for Tina Fey. The school has some great traditions.  For the past 100 years the girls wear summer hats with flowers  and white dresses for their graduation.  The girls vote on the dresses at a fashion show modeled by their peers.  This year's winner was a Project Runway finalist/winner (not sur

There are three musicians that speak to my soul and the one on the very top of that list is The Boss.  I have been to several concerts of his since I was 18 years old.  Almost 30 years of growing up with Bruce.  I so love his music that my son narrowly escaped being named Bruce, I was vetoed by his father. My first concert with him was the Born in the USA tour in Dallas.  I was hooked.  It was a stadium tour and even though we had nosebleed seats he lit up the stadium like it was the Fourth of July. At the Summit several times, before it was a mega church and the Toyota Center.  I have cried when I couldn't get tickets and the concert had sold out in 18 minutes,  only to have my lovely boyfriend call me a few hours later telling me he got us tickets...I later married that man. Bruce proved it all night long that he gets better with age.  He performed for more than three hours and has fo

What a whirlwind weekend.  I have been working on a wedding of 180 plus guests for the past year. Saturday was the wedding which ended at 11:00 pm and I didn't fall asleep until about midnight. Then I had to meet for my 5K run with the Lupus Foundation at 7:30 am. All in all I had about 3.5 hours of sleep last night and I feel exhausted. I am proud to report that I had set a goal of $1000 and with the support of very generous friends  and one who by the threat of "unfriending" of Facebook made her pledge.  All in jest of course.   Steel Magnolias was the name of our team started by my lovely niece (Happy Birthday Andrea!!) whose mother Tabatha died in January at a very young age, approximately 43.   My good neighbor and friends, Paige and Jimmy were kind enough to sign up with me and ran the whole way. Paige got the best time and has done amazing with her Crossfit.  More on that on a later blog when things slow down a bit around her. oh, my time was 3
