5K Lupus Run

What a whirlwind weekend.  I have been working on a wedding of 180 plus guests for the past year. Saturday was the wedding which ended at 11:00 pm and I didn't fall asleep until about midnight. Then I had to meet for my 5K run with the Lupus Foundation at 7:30 am. All in all I had about 3.5 hours of sleep last night and I feel exhausted.

I am proud to report that I had set a goal of $1000 and with the support of very generous friends  and one who by the threat of "unfriending" of Facebook made her pledge.  All in jest of course.  

Steel Magnolias was the name of our team started by my lovely niece (Happy Birthday Andrea!!) whose mother Tabatha died in January at a very young age, approximately 43.  

My good neighbor and friends, Paige and Jimmy were kind enough to sign up with me and ran the whole way. Paige got the best time and has done amazing with her Crossfit.  More on that on a later blog when things slow down a bit around her.

oh, my time was 36.42, came in 212 out of 433 . meh

Senior Presentation Class of 2014 Photo by Cecilia Sheeren This fairy tale started six years ago......back when Shelby had braces, was finishing up the 6th grade and lived a life full of sleep overs, girl scout camp outs and the love and security of a two parent home. A pretty good and "normal" life by any standards.  A real suburban dream, however, there is not much growth in a bubble and as we all know our circumstances are not shared by all. August 2011, first day at boarding school.  She was so excited to start her new adventure.  I can't believe we let her do this.  It was so hard on us, to not see her everyday, be at her school for every little celebration or event.  But here we are three years later and we did it!  We ALL did it!! As they say at Hockaday we are HOCKADONE!!! Shelby wore the traditional white dress that all the Hockaday Seniors wear for graduation.  The dress is voted on by all seniors and a fashion show with models of all sizes showcasing the dress. In the years past the seniors would wear white hats with flowers and carry a flower basket.  However being the centennial year the girls reverted to the original hats of pastel colors.  Shelby chose yellow, my favorite color on her. The ceremony was outside and very humid....look at me glisten and let's not mention my hair.  uhg! Hockaday has century old traditions that are truly southern.  Here are some of the hats the girl

Belize? Yes, Please!!

We arrived at the Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge around 5:30 pm, after a very pleasant drive thru the towns of Balmopan, (capital of Belize) and Armenia. We were scheduled for a night tour but decided to rest up and start fresh the next day.  The lodge had a great 360' view and Shelby and I woke up at 4:45 am to make the 30-minute hike up to this wooden deck.  It only took us about 14 minutes, we must be in good shape!  Hahaha. It was worth the hike and getting out of bed.  The boys slept in.  😴 We even caught some fog rolling through the mountains which made the view even more spectacular. I look forward to my morning coffee and planning my day, this view from the River House made it hard to plan anything except relax and breath... Our first full day, I booked a kayaking tour on the Belize River.  Our guide, Abel also does birdwatching tours and was very knowledgeable regarding the wildlife in the area.  The best part was hearing the Howling
