Summer 2014

A new look...... As much as I love my family and they loved my long hair, I just could not take it any longer (pun intended).  So I went short and dark.  Which made my eyes look lighter, no I did not doctor the color.  I love the length and the feel.  I am very happy I took the plunge and cut it.  Excuse the selfies, if I didn't take pictures of me, there would be no record of my existence.    My mom turns 70.... My mother has always enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casinos.  I don't understand the lure of sitting at a machine and feeding it money but for some (actually a lot of seniors) this is a big thrill.  My mother's only wish is for her to be with her kids on her birthday, so I arranged for my brother and I to take her to L'auberge in Lake Charles.   Gorgeous hotel, loved the lazy river. Unfortunately,  my older brother doesn't have a good relationship with my mom so it was just us two, but it real...

January Happenings

Image
January started with a beautiful fairytale dance and ended with heartache and sorrow.  It has been a month full of ups and downs.  People that we care for have gone through the loss of a young life and the same week we experienced the loss of one of our family members. Two funerals, days apart and then the phone call from a friend about our old neighbor and my old walking partner, who was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Needless to say, my heart has been full of sorrow and heartache for most of January.   With all this emotional dejection all I needed was health issues:  I caught the flu, my mom was in the hospital and I stopped exercising. I need to learn to stop asking "What know?" Because God does have a sense a humor. With all this going on I forgot to tell you about our weekend at the deer lease. In times of sorrow you need to think of the good things in our lives because in reality they do outnumber the tragic. We did get to do a li...

Anniversary Weekend

Image
Happy Anniversary!  Last week we made reservations at Oxheart for our 15 year wedding anniversary.  I highly recommend this place, portions are small but with 7 or 5 courses you do not leave hungry.  I love the wine pairing and the unique preparation of common foods. Figs, grapes, okra, eggplant, goat, so scrumptious!!! When we planned our wedding my husband was not a big hunter, one because he didn't have the time (he married into an instant family) and two-John is a workaholic.  The reason I bring this up is because, September 1st is the opening of Dove Hunting Season.  So for many years, 14 to be exact my husband has missed opening weekend.  Complaining every year about the timeing of our anniversary.  I waited until our daughter was two years old before he married me, I could wait a few more days to celebrate an anniversary. Well, this year we comprimised and did our dinner at Oxheart on Thursday, packed up and headed to the ranch on Friday ...

Flashback Friday

Hunting Days my chunky days Only in Texas.  Well maybe not only but definitely one of the things Texas is known for.  Today is opening weekend of Dove Season.  Deer season begins November 3, and then the real manly weekends begin.  So I am told.  John has taken both of the kids hunting and being a city girl, it was something I did not grow up with but am grateful that my children get to head out to the country if not to hunt but to have some fun.  Open fires, lessons on shooting, cook outs, and bathing in well water.  Ok the last part is my least favorite.  The water smells like rotten eggs!  I try not to get too dirty and rather hose off outside than jump in that shower.  It's my Achilles heal.  John took Emilio to South Dakota for pheasant hunting and this picture was taken at 4:30 am.  They flew a Cherokee 6 with two other planes all the way up for a long weekend of hunting.  Talk about a long plane rid...
