Dallas Revisited

Wow, do things every slow down for me??  After a week of getting my father-in-law settled in to his new digs, we were looking forward to a nice quiet evening at home.  John went straight to his office to work on his essay (he went back to school and is taking a few classes online) and I returned phone calls.  One of those calls was from  neighbors asking us to come over for drinks and appetizers.  I love when one neighbor calls us to invite us to another one's home.  The more the merrier, right?

It was still a very relaxing evening.

Saturday morning, a beautiful day for flying, we head to Dallas.  We experienced very little turbulence however, due to the head winds it took us an hour and 45 minutes to get there.  Needless to say we arrived safe and sound to a very excited daughter working on the play "Our Town".  We were able to pick up some flowers and surprised her with them after the play.  It was senior recognition, being the last play of the school year all the senior actors and crew were given roses after the performance.

It was a lovely time.

We have been coming to Dallas for two years now and I just love the area Shelby is in.  Most of all I love some of the moms,  I look forward to visiting every chance I get.  We even had a few come and visit me in Spring.  I'm hoping it will be a repeat performance, for 4th of July.

I do have to say that my neighbors do a beautiful job of welcoming our guest and making them feel at home when they visit.  Thank you awesome friends/neighbors!!!!

Sliders from one of the food trucks parked at the park.  Had a great day watching puppies play at the dog bark and walking around.  I love having a daughter and a son, I have the best of both worlds!

August 2011, first day at boarding school.  She was so excited to start her new adventure.  I can't believe we let her do this.  It was so hard on us, to not see her everyday, be at her school for every little celebration or event.  But here we are three years later and we did it!  We ALL did it!! As they say at Hockaday we are HOCKADONE!!! Shelby wore the traditional white dress that all the Hockaday Seniors wear for graduation.  The dress is voted on by all seniors and a fashion show with models of all sizes showcasing the dress. In the years past the seniors would wear white hats with flowers and carry a flower basket.  However being the centennial year the girls reverted to the original hats of pastel colors.  Shelby chose yellow, my favorite color on her. The ceremony was outside and very humid....look at me glisten and let's not mention my hair.  uhg! Hockaday has century old traditions that are truly southern....

Kitchen Desk Make Over

This is my desk in my kitchen.  What you don't see is the kitchen table behind it that is inundated with papers, binders, bills, and files.  We live in a house that has plenty of living space yet for some reason, we spend the majority of our time in the kitchen/family room.   I spent the last couple of days organizing and thinking how best to use this space and the remainder of the 4000 sq ft. in my home.  This is what I have done...... Planning on adding something on the top *kid art* possibly from the craft room I removed all my binders of my organizations that I am involved with, that freed up an entire shelf.  I then organized my cook books, which believe it or not, I actually use.  I will begin using my craft room upstairs as my project room for girl scouts and national charity league.  I even have a tv being moved their so that I can actually work while catching up on shows or just having an old movie on for comfort while I...

December Happenings part 1

Our annual Christmas Party with the lovely ladies I volunteer with at Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum, on December 8th.  The venue was a new one for us at the Wild Stallions Winery in Spring. Beautiful location and the food was the best in all the years I have attended.  Wearing my Christmas skirt I bought on Ebay last year and had to take it to the tailors for resizing.  I received a lot of compliments on it that night. December 12 we spent the evening in the Heights enjoying the lights.  First time we walked the area and had a great time. Streets are closed off and many private house parties are going on with live music on the front porches and balconies.  Port-a-potties, wine wagons, and many fun yard decorations. While we enjoyed the Christmas festivities in Houston our lovely husbands were in Austin due to the weather.  Needless to say they also had a fun time on 6th street.  They flew home the next morning once the nasty weat...
